Bob Vila, of the celebrated PBS series This Old House, recommended “15 Beach Bungalows for Your Next Vacation” on his popular website. Historic Scout’s Cottage was listed as one of these fifteen vacation beach bungalows. The list included such popular vacation spots as Australia, Florida, Hawaii, and California to name a few. He describes Scout’s Cottage as, “Not only is the cottage lovely, but it’s rife with historical flavor…ideal.” He also states it possesses, “..comfort, affordability and above all, close proximity to a fun and restorative beach.”
Historic Scout’s Cottage. The entire beach home is yours! A century-old unique 1,065 sq. ft. Historic Cottage. One of a kind collections, original artwork and souvenirs in every room. Immaculate!
Fantastic location. Our beach cottage is located on a dead-end street. Serene. Lovely neighborhood with no motels, hotels, or condos; just a wonderfully friendly neighborhood close to everything.
Our cottage is beautifully maintained inside and outside. Professionally landscaped front and backyard. Hot tub. One minute to beach. Downtown is 2 minutes away by car. Close to Estuary. 2 blocks to Promenade.
I’d be delighted to help you plan your get-away to Oregon’s oldest family beach resort, Seaside. Relax and have some well-deserved fun! I’m Kay and my husband Ron and I own and manage this special beach home. This is definitely a ‘mom and pop’ run business. And that’s just the way we want it. No middle person to deal with, no large management team adding extra fees to pay for a rotating staff’s salaries.
Here’s some recent compliments Scout’s Cottage has received from our guests’ reviews. “Charming and comfortable! The beds were absolutely amazing. The towels were divine. Highly recommend.” “Absolutely wonderful time. So cozy. Had everything we needed. In the perfect location.” “All the resources Kay sent ahead of time were so helpful. I can’t thank her enough. We used them as our guide for what to do and where to explore.”
THE COTTAGE:
Large country-size Kitchen and spacious Living Room. A sunny Sun Porch. A Back Porch with washer/dryer. Generous-sized Bathroom with claw-foot bathtub. Two delightful Bedrooms upstairs. Perfect for up to six guests. Three real beds. There is also a queen size sofa-sleeper in the living room.
DETAILS OF THE ROOMS:
Sun Porch: Open the front door to Scout’s Cottage and the first room to welcome you is the Sun Porch surrounded with large glass windows, shiny hardwood floor, glossy white wood walls, books, sofa, chairs, a wooden doll house, toys, games, umbrellas, and even walking sticks.
Kitchen: Spacious, sunny and unique. Our guests say this is their dream Kitchen! A large glass-front cupboard is filled with a wide choice of colorful vintage dinnerware, ranging from 1950s restaurant dishes to 1960s promotional plastic ware. The Kitchen’s highlight is the stainless steel six burners gas Decor stove. All the expected modern appliances are here, including a microwave, coffeemaker, full-size refrigerator, and dishwasher. The specially designed shelves hold vintage souvenir salt & pepper shakers; on the walls are brightly colored 1950s fruit chalk-ware, Oregon coastal memorabilia including the beloved Oregon Pixie Kitchen, a reclaimed neon bakery sign and a large country table which seats eight.
Bathroom: Downstairs, spacious with a combination claw foot bathtub/shower combination. All the toweling, shampoo and hand soaps, hairdryer and mirrors are provided.
Living Room: Large and comfortable. The walls are filled with historic photographs, original artwork and a reclaimed local mural. The original dark-wood paneled walls with 9 windows open easily to let in the refreshing ocean air! A large red enamel gas fireplace keeps you warm through any changes in the coastal weather.
Want to relax and watch a movie? Our film library holds over 400+ movies and is curated by the owner of Clinton Street Video Store in Portland. We also stock a wide variety of CDs for music fans. There’s a library of novels and non-fiction reading, including books about the Lewis and Clark Expedition along with local authors.
Collector’s Bedroom (upstairs): The bed is queen size with cotton sheets, blankets and quilts to keep you warm. We reclaimed a large painted mural that originally hung above a long-time favorite souvenir shop in downtown Seaside. In the middle of this painted local landscape is the word ‘Collectors’. This describes the room perfectly! There are dozens of historic photographs of Oregon shipwrecks, Oregon coastal maps, and local photographs taken of the town and its people over a 100 year period.
Another wall is covered with dozens of 1940s vintage wooden plaques. If you’ve never seen these whimsical images you’ll surely enjoy reading what is carved or written on them. Very popular in the early part of the 1900s up to the early 1960s, these souvenir plaques were one of the first vacation souvenirs that families would pick up as they traveled in their cars from state to state.
Paradise Bedroom (upstairs): The other section of the painted mural resides in this pretty room. It has the painted word ‘Paradise’ on it. Paradise describes this room quite nicely. Homemade quilts are on each of the beds. There is a double-size bed and a standard-twin size bed in the bedroom. On one wall is a collection of vintage souvenir state plates, on another wall are turn of the century tin-foil artwork known as reverse painting with tinsel and dates back to Victorian time.
Back Porch: Contains the washer and dryer, and washing supplies. Iron and ironing board. No coin operated machines here.
Yard: Fully landscaped backyard with hot tub, patio furniture, large oval patio, and gas BBQ gives you additional extended space to enjoy both day and night.
LOCATION:
Quiet closed-end street. However, within a minute you can be at the beach (1 block), on the Promenade (1.5 blocks), or at the 12th Avenue Bridge overlooking the Necanicum River (1.5 blocks). The Convention Center and Downtown are within walking distance or a 2-4 minute drive.
Scout’s Cottage is located next to charming Historic Birdie’s Cottage. You can rent both cottages which accommodate up to 9 guests. Our cottages are over 100 years old, with a combination of unique vintage ‘souvenir’ collections and modern conveniences in every room.
“Enjoy the clear ocean air of one of the world’s most beautiful beaches.” NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC. Seaside is THE seashore destination for experiencing popular year-round attractions. And staying at our cottage will complete your perfect vacation or weekend getaway.
